Murray Leibbrandt

Murray Leibbrandt holds the National Research Foundation chair in poverty and inequality research at the University of Cape Town’s School of Economics.

He is the director of the Southern Africa Labour and Development Research Unit and the African Centre of Excellence for Inequality Research within the African Research Universities Alliance.

He is also on the executive committee of the International Economic Association, co-chairs the scientific panel on population, poverty and inequality of the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population and is a senior research fellow at the United Nations University’s World Institute for Development Economics Research.
